Joint personnel raid formalin-preserved tofu and rotten chicken at Kramat Jati Market, Wednesday (6/8).

We took 64 food samples to be examined further

Based on Beritajakarta.com’s observation, the raid was led by East Jakarta Mayor, Bambang Musyawardana. Santi (31), one of the traders, looked nervous when her tofu contains formalin.

She admitted does not know about formalin-preserved tofu. Her distributor directly distributes tofu everyday without any explanation.

Formalined Food Still Found in Central Jakarta

“I only sell tofu. I do not know about formalin in my tofu,” she admitted.

The mayor directly asked distributor phone number to be tracked further.

“Formalin will give bad impact in 5-10 years later,” Bambang told Santi.

Personnel seized the tofu to be disposed.

Next raid was applied for other products. At chicken peddler, personnel found rotten chicken.

Meanwhile, Bayu Sarihastuti, East Jakarta Head Sub-dept. of Maritime, Fishery and Food Tenacity admitted that the raid was held at other six markets. Those are Kramat Jati, Ciplak, Cibubur, Cijantung, Jambul and Ciracas.

“We took 64 food samples to be examined further. The samples came from fishery, husbandry, and agriculture products, “ Bayu explained.
